Manchester Area Ramblers Public Transport Walks Programme - Autumn/Winter 2017/2018

Sun, 15 April - New Mills Central to Hayfield(via Lantern Pike and Kinder Reservoir) - Leader: Roger - Moderate  10 miles
Walk Route - New Mill Central Station, Sett Valley Trail, Birch Vale, Lantern Pike (1,227ft), Shooting Cabin, Hayfield Visitors Centre
Expected time back in Hayfield Visitors Centre/Bus Stop - no later than 5.00pm
Return journey from Hayfield - Bus no 358 to New Mills Central then train to Manchester OR Bus no 358 to Stockport Bus Station OR Bus no 61 to Glossop Train Station then train into Manchester
Suggested Ticket - System One 1 day AnyBus & Train Adult (Off-Peak)
£7.30 . You will only need to pay from Strines to New Mills Central return £3.20, as the System One only covers up to Strines . The System One ticket will cover the bus journey to Glossop station and the train journey from Glossop to Manchester (if you are returning on that route)
 
 
Sun, 29 April - Todmordern to Hebden Bridge - 10.15 train Victoria Station - Leader: John - Moderate Distance 11 miles
Walk Start- from Todmorden Station at 10.42 straight after the arrival of the train
Suggested Ticket - Day return ticket Hebden Bridge
Walk Route - Todmorden Station - Todmorden Edge - Cornholme Shore - Hudson Bridge - Whirlaw Common - Rodwell Head - Eastwood - Rochdale Canal - Hebden Bridge     -    There is plenty of climbing on the route especially at the start.
Expected time back in Hebden Bridge - no later than 6.00pm 
Meeting Point - On the concourse infront of the Ticket Office at Victoria Sation and at Todmorden Station

Walk Route - Grindleford Station, Hay Wood, Froggat Edge (1,130ft), Curbar Edge, Curbar, Derwent River, Bubnell Farm, Wheatlands Lane, Bank Wood South & North, Calver, Calver Mill, Calver Marshes, Froggat's Bridge, Spooners Lane, Horse Hay Coppice, B6521, Grindleford Station 
Distance - 12 miles
Meeting Point - At the entrance of the 9.22 train platform at Piccadilly Station and at Grindleford Station 
Expected time back at Grindleford - no later than 6.00pm
Suggested Ticket - Day Return Grindleford 
 
Sun, 27 May - Smithy Bridge Circular - 9.40 train Victoria Station - Leader: Ian  Moderate Distance 8 miles 
 Walk Route -  Smithy Bridge Station, Hollingworth lake, Benny Hill, Pennine Bridle Way, Lydgate, Smithy Bridge Station 
Meeting Point - On the concourse at Victoria Station opposite the Ticket Office and at Smithy Bridge Station

All walks use public transport from Manchester. The leader of the party may cancel the walk or change the destination of the walk if a bus/train service is withdrawn or if there is advance notice of significant delays. Be sure to check public transport times a couple of days prior to the date of the walk at the Transport for Greater Manchester 0161-228 7811, website or www.nationalrail.co.uk  phone 08457 484950, to ensure that times have not changed or that trains are not affected by engineering works.
